Itinerary
A signposted path leads to Diou. Beyond this town, we will take a traffic-free route alongside the canal next to the Loire as far as Digoin. There is an alternative route running the same distance, a little further north through the hills of Burgundy. But be warned that route has a few steep climbs! We then leave Digoin along the Canal du Centre to stop at Paray-le-Monial.

Health spa
After strenuous activity, it's time for a bit of pampering - relax in one of four spa-water springs, with high-tech equipment to treat rheumatism and cardiovascular ailments.
The belfry
The belfry is still used as the main gate to the walled city dating back to the Middle Ages. At its inauguration in 1398 by Philip II "the Bold", then Duke of Burgundy, it was equipped with a drawbridge. It still has a functioning clock today - people call it the clock tower.
Saint-Aubin-sur-Loire
The Néo-Classical Château
This building is worth taking a short detour, both for its reputation as the best castle in the Loire region for its golden stone and its two huge brick outbuildings, making it a perfect example of neoclassical architecture.
Digoin
The observaLoire
You will find out all about the history and the working of the Loire and its channels, through this fun, interactive tour upstream from the canal bridge.
The Canal Bridge
This ingenious system, with its 11 arches, enables the canal alongside the Loire to cross the river.
Paray-le-Monial
Museum of Sacred Art
Behind the white neo-classical façade, unexpectedly juxtaposed to the rustic town, this museum offers an interesting mix of genres: ornaments from church frontages of different periods, paintings inspired by Egyptian and Biblical times, Latin inscriptions - this is a mixed collection that will fascinate history buffs.
This Clunian foundation was built by Cluniac architects during the latter half of the 11th century. It still cuts an imposing stance, a narthex flanked by two massive square towers, on the rue de la Visitation.
