Itinerary
We leave Chalon-sur-Saône mainly on the road system. A few kilometres have, however, been adapted for cycling, from the end of the trading estate, just before Gercy, up to Verdun-le-Doubs. From there, the link to Seurre reveerts to a normal road surface. Between Seurre and Pagny-la-Ville, the route alternates between adapted routes and the roadside, before ultimately reaching a marked cycle path to St-Jean-de-Losne. After that, most of the route to Dole is on adapted routes, except a small section upon arrival at Tavaux. We enter Dole alongside the Rhone-Rhine Canal.
Tourist destinations
Chalon-sur-Saône

Chalon-sur-Saône, with its vineyards, Romanesque churches and its châteaux, will delight foodies and wine enthusiasts alike, as well as the art lovers and history buffs.
Nicéphore Niépce Photography Museum
Nicéphore Niépce, the inventor of photography, was born in Chalon-sur-Saône. In 1861, the town began to gather his pictures in this museum, along with his personal effects and the earliest cameras used by the world's pioneer of photography. A whole section of the museum is more generally devoted to the photography from the 19th century to the present day.
Verdun-sur-le-Doubs
Saint-Jean Bridge
Between the trees, over the small Doubs river, take time out on the Saint-Jean Bridge and its tall arches spanning the river since 1810. If you are not too absorbed in the landscape, you can always reflect on the fact that in the Middle Ages, the bridge was not moored.
Seurre
The Bossuet House
A magnificent red-brick house with a painted check pattern.
This is the ancestral home of the famous French writer and Bishop Bossuet.
It dates back to the 16th century.
Saint-Jean-de-Losne
Port
The first inland river port in France, with 350 mooring rings, is the perfect place to swap your bicycle for a boat trip for a few hours. The tourist office next door gives information to both experienced cyclists and budding sailors.
Dole
La Commanderie
On the left bank of the Doubs, opposite the old town, La Commanderie is where all the shows, sporting events, trade fairs and exhibitions take place attracting people from all over Dole and beyond.
Collegiate Church Steeple
This 75 metre Gothic steeple - very characteristic of the region's architecture towards the end of the Middle Ages, dominates the entire town. This is a must-see for anyone who loves religious buildings!
The tanner's quarter
Take some time out to walk around the rue Pasteur - one of the oldest streets in the town. A number of old tanners' houses run alongside the broad canal, recognisable by the huge cellar openings at the water level. There are also some imposing mansions, built by the gentry of the Renaissance era, including the Hôtel de Champaney. The location is particularly suitable for boat rides.
