What's EV6 ?
Project background

The Atlantic-Black Sea EuroVelo 6 route is one of the 14 routes of the EuroVelo network created by the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) in 1994. From 2004 to 2006, 18 French, German and Swiss partners joined forces to set up the West part of this EuroVelo cycle route, from the Atlantic to Ulm.
It aims at running alongside three of the largest European rivers, melting pots of European civilisation: the Loire, the Rhine and the Danube. It therefore passes through France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania. The aim of this EuroVelo 6 project is to enable the public to discover exceptional surroundings when cycling alongside the European rivers, while also protecting them.
An international site

In the long-term, this route shall be completely marked out, made safe and equipped with all tourist infrastructures required for accommodating the cycle tourists.
The work has significantly progressed in France where a large part of the route has already been outlined.
Switzerland, Germany and Austria are shining examples in this huge project, as everything is already prepared;
Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia and Croatia have already marked out a large part of the routes and are continuing improvement works.
In the coming years, Romania and Bulgaria should undertake the work required for making sure that the cycle paths are safe along the River Danube, in relation to another European project.
Temporary routes, described on maps and topoguides, have already been identified on the sections on which the work is being continued.
