Belgrade already has some cycleways, but the last few kilometres of the route into the city are difficult for cyclists. When heading east out of Belgrade, it is best to follow the Danube embankment as far as Pancevo. It is not tarmacked but it avoids the heavy traffic on the roads. A European programme is being planned to signpost the entire route and improve the difficult sections. Local organisations, with support from GTZ, have already done a large amount of work to indicate the best routes.
