From the Iron Gates to the delta, between Bulgaria and Romania

From Vidin to Silistra, the route splits into two. The Romanian leg leaves the mountains to follow the Danube along minor roads across the wide southern plains. The Bulgarian leg goes through several nature parks, including the Rusenski Lom Park, which includes the village of Ivanovo with its churches hewn into the rock.

Curiosity In the Rusenski Lom Valley, in North-eastern Bulgaria, a number of churches, chapels, monasteries and cells have been dug into the rock around the village of Ivanovo.
